OTAGO ART SOCIETY.
The following is tho annual report of the Otago Art Society:—
The membership of the society continues to increase. There are now 106 working members, and 113 on the honorary list. Tho exhibition held last November was quite up to the usual standard. Four hundred and twentyseven pictures were shown, some on loan, and the council take this opportunity of thanking the owners for their kindness in lending them to the society. The sales amounted to £335 3s. This includes a sum of £126 os derived from the sale of tickets in tho art union. An exhibition of sketches, including a collection of sketches from tho Dunedin School of Art, was also held in May. This proved a great success. Sketches were received from artists throughout the Dominion, and a most representative and interesting collection xvas secured. About 600 sketches xvere exhibited. Tlxe sales amounted to £55 16s 6d, including an art union of £ls 3s. No entrance foe to the gallery was charged, and the public attended in large numbers. The medals presented annually to the Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools wore xvou by L. C. Cherry and Gertrude L. Bates. From tho bal-ance-sheet it will Ik? seen that a sum of £202 12s 4d is to the credit of tho society.
