CITY COUNCIL REPORTS
The Works Committee recommend that tho following applications-for .extras' on the Valley Ward drainage contracts be granted—viz., (a) (Messrs Maitland and Butters, contractors for Selwyn storm water drain, an extra amounting to £27 10s for additional work required by Drainage Board and not provided for in contract; (b) Messrs Maitland and Butters, contractors for Gladstone drain, an extra amounting to £2l 63 6d for alterations aud additions to work required by the Drainage. Board and not provided for in contract. , The Water Committee report that the Bay Town Board, in reply to a request for permission to supply residents outsido the district, have been informed that it is desirable, as a matter of policy, that all such supplies should be undertaken by the City from a connection at a convenient point on tho Board's main, the Board to charge the Council for water taken as registered by meter, aud make a small charge for the use of their mains. Tho Gas Committee recommend that the tender of the Parley Firebrick Company, Melbourne, of the sum of £250 13s 9d for the supply and delivery, c.i.f. and e., Dunediu, of firebrick goods for tho city gasworks, plus a small amount to cover short allowanco for duty estimated by the pas engineer at £3 16s and wharfage, £lB lie accepted. Authority is .granted to carry out the following extensions to mains:—lugs avenue, St. Kilda, five chains of 3in main, at an estimated cost of £25: Grove street, St. Kilda, three chains of 3in main, at an estimated cost of £ls; Askwith street, Caversliam, six chains of 3:n main, at an estimated cost of £3O; Andcrton raid, Kaikorai, four chains of main, at an estimated cost of £2O; Princes street, St. Kilda, two and a-half chains of 3iu main, at an estimated cost of £11; Normanby street, three chains of service piping, at a cost of £5. Tho Electric Power and Lighting Com mittee recommend that the tender of Messrs Cosscns and Black. Ltd.. for the manufacture, supply, and delivery of cast-iron parts required for the ferro-eonerete dam at Lake Luella, Waipori Falls, for tho sum of £lO6 3s, be accepted. Tho Finance Committee report that tho city solicitors have been instructed to cooperate with the solicitor for the Green Island Borough Council in the matter of taking out, 'an originating summons for the purpose of determining whether the Borough of Green Island is entitled to bo supplied with water under tho Dunediu Waterworks Extension Act 1875 Amendment Act, 1878, and also of defining Uie meaning of the words "a sufficiency of water" appearing in the [ said Act.
