THE FERRY SERVICE.
During the winter months the Dunedin Ferry Company’s steamer Maheno has received a thorough overhaul, and considerable improvements have been effected. A handsome promenade deck has been added, and the weather bulkhead shifted right forward, which gives batter accommodation on the main dock. . A neat stairway gives access to the promenade deck, and a number of carpet runners have been placed on the latter for the passengers to sit on. The engines have also received a thorough overhaul, and are now in good working order. This afternoon the steamer made a trial trip to PortoboUo. About 120 gnosis took advantage of Mr Sullivan’s invitation, and as the day was gloriously fine the trip was a very enjoyable one. The company propose running the Maheno on Wednesdays and Saturdays and all public holidays and crush days throughout Hie season.
The Moerangi will keep up her usual time-table, and as the now steamer Waikana will be finished by the King’s Birthday, every facility will be offered to these desirous of visiting the favorite resorts down the harbor.
