He Northumberland colliery-owners have informed the Miners’ Association that if an Eight Hours BHI is passed into law it would result in lower wages, and the stoppage of some collieries. THE SPANISH MINING STRIKE. BILBAO UNDER MARTIAL LAW. MADRID, August 23. (Received August 24, at 8.37 aan.)’ During the disturbances at Bilbao barricades were erected. There are 3,000 strikeis. Martial law is in operation, and no newspa;nrs .were published to-day. A collision between the police, and strikeis resulted in several on each side being killed and wounded.
A number of strikers attempted te stop the train at Santander, hut the Civil Guard fired, killing two and wounding three. [Bilbao is a city of about 30,000 people, and has many important industries. Here are large iron and copper mines in the vicinity.]
