NEW MUSIC

A copy of the Waftx,' ono <rf tfca Commonwealth. Band maiEic publications, baa been sent to us fa notice. It is composed by Mr Alex. F. Litbgow, -who used to be in the Invercargill Band, and published in Tasmania. Our opinion of tho compositioamay be expressed in a sentence. It is that Mr Lithgow has given the •world a bit of real music, not of equal value right through, but in its moat meagre passages fully up to the level of ordinary band maao, in its best parts brilliant and etevur, and on tho -whole one of the most worthy musical publications from colonial sources. The pianoforte arrangement is worth, baying, and the -waltz' should sound really well as played by a band. The key is" the easy one of G- minor. '
