ANNIVERSARY DAY IN CANTERBURY.

CHRISTCHURCH, December 16.

To-day being the fifty-second anniversary of the founding of Canterbury, is being observed as a dose holiday in the city. The chief attractions are the opening‘of a section of the Waipara-Cheviot Railway, from Waipara to Scargill, the Racing Qub’s meeting, the Akaroa regatta, and the New Zealand wheel race meeting. The weather was very wet in the morning, but cleared up at mid-day. There are a large number o! visitors to all the sports meetings.
