THE BIBIE-IN-SCHOOLS REFERENDUM.

TO TKK miTOB, Sir,—l have just finished reading your article on this subject in yesterday’s * Star,’ and I think that, in common with otb<r newspapers, yon miss the real point in the proposal to submit this or any other question to the popular vote. Before referring the subject to the vote of the people, itsurely would be necessary that the people in general should know in homely language the ins and outs of the subject on which they vote, and the proposal of the Rev. James Gibb to submit tbe question to the vote of the electors, nine-tenths of whom do not know tbe merits of the question, seems to be no T hing than inner inent. It is all very well for Mr Gibb and his friends, and sympathetic and ignorant supporters, to urge this question to a referendum, but surely before doing so Mr Gibb and “ the Church ” will not object to give me, as <m elector, full information on the tiuth and veracity of the Bible, to enab’e me to honestly record my vote on the subject. Tf Mr Gibb refuses to do so, tbe general public will know the value of the truth and sincerity of Mr Gibb’s motives. If he agrees to do so, and you will give the necessary spa re in the ‘ Star,’ I will in, say, a fortnkht’s time (I am on’y a temporary resident) ask Mr Gibb for varied information on the subject of the Bible, in order to enable me to honestly record my vote—l ain, etc., Unpkejudice.
