SUPREME COURT.—IST BANCO.

(Before His Honor Mr Justice WUlhum.) M.'Gregor and Co. v. the Golden United Gold Dredging Company, Limited —Claim, £I,OOO for breach of contract. The evidence in this case was previocsly taken before a jury, when a verdict was returned for the plaintiffs for £650 damages. ' The facte were that the plaintiffs contracted with the defendants for the manufacture of certain machinery, which was to be completed on the 21st of May, 1901, but it was not completed cm that date, arid tie defendants gave notice to the plaintiffs rescinding the contract. The plaiftiffs then sucri the defendants for damages. During the trial Mr Sim asked leave to move for a non-suit or a new trial, and this motion now came on for hearing. Mr John MacGregor and Mr Payne.-ap-pearcd for the plaintiffs, and Mr Sim for the defendants. After hearing argument His Honor reserved judgment. • , The next case heard was Carnahan v. the Borough of North Invercargill. This was an appeal from the magistrate's decision in respect to an action Tor damages. Mr Sim appeared for the appellant, and Mr W. C. MacGregor for the respondent. His Honor also reserved judgment in this case. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. p (Before E. H. Carew. Esq., S.MO Waipori King Gold Dredging Company (D. M. Findlay) v. R. M'Masters.—Claim, £25, for calls due.—Judgment for plaintiffs by default for that amount and costs (£2 Canada Cycle and Motor Company (U. and J. A. Cook) v. R. D. Thomson.—Claim, £5 10s and costs.--Ordere/i to pay £o 8s still due, with 23s costs of this proceeding, by instalments of £3 16s, on' March-U and .the balance (£3 16s) on April 1, 1902, in default eight days' imprisonment. - Golden Reward Gold Dredging Company v. Margaret Crossan.—Claim, £96 ss, calls due.—There was no appearance of plaintiffs. —Defendant appeared, but did not admit the claim.—Case struck out, with costs (£4 16s 3d).

CITY POLICE COURT. (Before C. CL Graham, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness.—Alice Goodsir, an oldi offender, was sentenced to three months hard labor; a first offender pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s or twenty-four hours' imprisonment Attempted Suicide While Drunk.—Agnes Sparkes pleaded guilty, to this charge. When on the Ocean Beach road she had walked into lite breakers, with a fjuicidai intention, but several men who were near rescued her.—Sub-inspector Kiely submitted that the woman was not in a fit condition to plead, owing to an attack of delirium tremens. He asked that the case be remanded for a week.—Granted accord inglyRefusing to Leave Licensed Premises.— John Martin pleaded guilty to this offence, stating that he was drunk at the time, and did not know what he was doing. The barmaid of the Adelaide Hotel had refused him drink, and requested him to go, bat he would not, and used obscene language. When the police were called in he again refused—Fined £1 and 9s costs, in default seven days' imprisonment. Attempted Suicide.—To this charge Jane Brown pleaded guilty.—Mr Irwin, who appeared for accused, explained that on the 28th January, when the woman was drunk, she took the heads off some matches, soaked them in water, and drank the liquid. Her husband summoned Dr De Lautour, who recommended her to be taken to the hospital, where she had remained till to-day.—His recommended her to bo taken to the hosSitaL, where she had remained since.—His Worship convicted accused, and ordered heT to come up for sentence when called upon, conditionally upon her paying the doctor's fee (21s). Maintenance.—The manager (Mi- Bnrlinson) of the Industrial School charged Ellen Coster with not having for some time paid a weekly instalment of 2s to the Institution for the maintenance of her illegitimate child, Harry Coster. —Mr Hanlon, who appeared for the accused, stated that the father of the child had died, and that when the woman went into service in order, to make sufficient to pay the amount she was discharged on account of having an encumbrance,—The case was dismissed, and on Mr Hanlon's application the back payments up to the 31st December last were cancelled.

Adjourned—The case against Georgeson was adjourned for a week, and a case against William Ban- and Robert Hogg adjourned till the 13th inst.
