The criminal sessions started this morning. The calendar is light, the chief indictments being indecent assault against Vivian Harold Marriott, and attempting to bribe a Crown witness against George Mnmloid (late master of the yacht Ariadne). The latter arose out of the Ariadne ease. Mtrbford attempted to induce Mrs Downing re contradict her former evidence and go over to his side. It is understood that Mumford will plead guilty, as he was convicted and sentenced to four years for wrecking the Ariadne. NAPIER. At the Supreme Court this morning Judge Edwards, in his charge to the jury, regretted that there were no fewer than four charges of sexual offences against girls,, three of the accused being Maoris. The hearing of one of the charges against Kerr Ropiha is now proceeding.
