FATAL BOAT ACCIDENT.
Mr Dick, the signal-master at Taiar.n Head, telephoned at 10.45 this morning <« Sergeant Guerin, at Port Chalmers, that a fishing boat, containing two men—M*Cormack and Brown—when nearing the entrance to the beads, capsized, throwing the occupants into the water. Hie tug Plucky, which had towed out the chip Taranak' shortly after the accident, picked tip the boat bottom upwards. He pilot (mat, with the ciew, as soon as the accident was seen, went outside searching for ho bodies, and Sergeant Geerin, on receipt of the news, at once despatched Constable M’Quarrie to the heads to assist in the search. During the past few days there has been a heavy swell outside the heads, and. the accident, so far as can be ascertained, was caused by the boat being overloaded and coming in rather too close under the heads with the heavy swell, which caused her to broach to, aud, one of the seas Striking her, she capsized. Brown was married to M'Cormack’s sister, and leaves three young children. The two men left the Port shortly after midnight. No trace of the bodies has been discovered, but the men’s hats were picked up.
