MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES

The Pioneer of Dunedin Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, when there was a good attendance. Report* from the Sick, Visiting, and Abesent Members Committees were adopted.- It was decided to pay an official visit to the All Nations Lodge, Port Chalmers. After recess the reports from past .officers for the quarter were adopted and the installation of officers proceeded with. A rote of thanks was accorded the installing marshals (Bro. Austin and Sis. Oillam) and the visitors, and responded to by Bro. Austin, Bro. Gillam (Lily), and Bro. Qarkson (Hope of Dunedin Lodges). Receipts, £1 Bs. The largest number of members of the 1.0.0. F. that have met for some time assembled in Albany street Hall on Tuesday last to welcome Bro. J. T. Aitken, Grand Master of New Zealand. The District Deputy of the South Otago District (Bro. James Pattison) occupied the chair, to his right was the guest of the evening, ■while several members of the Grand Lodge also occupied seats on the platform. George Orichton, Chief Patriarch of the Encampment, in a, happy speech conveyed the good: wishes of the patriarchs to the G.M., who is a member of that branch of the Order. Sentiments exprewive of sincere welcome were also addressed to the visitor by P.N.G. Sis. L- Chapman on behalf of the three Rebekah lodges—Linda, Ruth, and Miriam. The Grand Master, in responding, expressed his deep sense of gratitude for tha splendid reception accorded him. In regard to the Bebekah branch he intimated hi 9 intention of encouraging the formation of a. lodge on his return to Invercargill, where they have a juvenile lodge. Bro. W. Reid, Grand Secretary, gave some instructive data re the progress of the American Order of Oddfellows. Bro. D. M. Miller, Grand Warden, made a few remarks. The following contributed vocal items: —Sis. Howorth. Sis. L. Duwton, Bros. J. M'Peak, It. M'Kinlay, R. Wardrop (song?), Sisters Livcombe and Howorth (duet). Two recitations were given—Sis. Randall ('Trouble in the Amen Corner') and Bro. G. Springs ('The Fireman's Story"). Sis. L. Chapman gave a reading ('Why Sister Goodwin became a Rebekah'). Piano solos, were rendered by Sisters Howorth and L. Durston, both of whom acted as accompanists. A successful evening was brought to a close by the singing of 'Auld lang syne.'
