THE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Otago Land Board was held yesterday, and attended by Chief Commissioner Barron and Commissioners'Clark, John Duncan, Dallas, and Kirkpatrick. R. M. Smith's application for 25 acres for cash, part of section / 16. block 2, Teriot district, held under pastoral license by Jane Elliott, was referred to the ranger for report, the Applicant abo to obtain runholder's consent. Bruce and Waikouaiti County Councils forwarded .statements of proposed expenditure of "thirds" and "fourths" for period sth August to 28th December, 1901'. Approved of. William Mitchell applied to purchase 6a lr 37p, being portion of section 28, block 11, Pomahaka district.—Approved; value to ba determined by Mr Duncan and the ranger. Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by A. C. Gray for a license to occupy unoccupied part of section 19, block 6. Town of Hyde.—License printed at 10s per annum, subjoct to the. residence rights now within the area applied for; also a right-of-way thereto.

Timothy Wilkins applied for the issue of a Crown grant for sections 40, 41, and 42, block 8. Crookston district. Ranger Bnghan reported, and the grant was issued accordingly. The warden forwarded a report on the application by Patrick Camming to purchase about 5 acres situate between section 8. block 4, Tuapeka LafJ district, and the main road at Tuapeka Flat,—Referred to Mr M'Leau for report: the applicant also to be required to advertise. A letter from Robert Holmes declining to accept a license to occupy section 4U, block 5, Maruwemta district, was received. The warden forwarded a report on sections 29, block 7, and 72, block 4, Table Hill district.—That it be offered as a pastoral lease for a term of fourteen years at a rental of Is per acre. An application for rural land, L.I.P. 3.805, George Calder. sections 10, 24, and 25. block 14, Tuapeka West district, was approved of. An application to surrender L.I.P. 697 ex., James O'Connell, section 9, block 7, Strath Taieri district, was declined.

An application to transfer L.I.P. 360 5.0., John Bradbury to James Kirkpatriek, section 10, block 11, Grccnvale district, was approved of. J. D. Forno applied for a license to remove lignite from section 15, block 14, Pom&haka, Downs Estate, lignite reserve.— Referred to Mr Duncan and the ranger to inspect and report when in the district. Ranger Mackenzie forwarded a report on the unoccupied sections in biock 12. Lower Hawea, district, and upon j/nvrence Murphy's application to have the sections opened under lease in perpetuity.—L. Murphy's application was declined. Ranger Mackenzie reported on the application by Robert Scott for a lease in perpetuity over 150 aires in block 3, Kawurau district, adjoiniug sections 23 and 24.—Application to he advertised, and the consent of the runliotder obtained.

A report from Assistant Hanger O'Neill was considered on section 12, block 6, Naseby district, held under occupation lease tinder "the Mining Districts Land Occupation Act, 1894, by Robert Hosie.—Mr Uosie to state cause why his lease should not be forfeited for non-compliauce with residence conditions.

Robert Dunbar Ross's application to purchase an area of about two acres and a-half adjoining section 119, block 19, Tuapeka East district, was considered, and it. was (iecided that he should advertise his application. Assistant-ranger O'Neill reported having attended a meeting of residents at Blacks re appointing a committee for the management of the commonage, and forwarded names of persona elected--Felix Donnelly, James White, sen., and Denis Sullivan.—Grazing license to be granted to Inspector Donnelly, White, and Sullivan, for block of 1,580 acres, in vicinity of Ophir, at a rental of 20s per acre; Waldron to be allowed one month within which to remove fence on sections 7, 14, and 15, and arrange with licensees. James M'Atamney applied for a grazing license over small area situated between Flannerv's freehold and sections 14, 15. and 16, "block 1. Town of Ophir.—Referred to the ranger for report. F. J. Donnelly's application for a license to occupy sections o to 7, and 10 to 13. block 4, Town of Ophir, was referred to the ranger for report. G. D. Morrison applied for a license to cut posts and rails in block 21, Urookston district. —The ranger to report.

Ranger Mackenzie reported on the application by Thomas Butler for an occupa-. lion k'use over forty acres situated between sections 9 and 55,"b10ck 1, Kawarau district.—The applicant to be advertised. Ranger Hugiian forwarded a report on sections 50, 51, and 55, Town of Waikoikoi, and application by James Davidson for a license to occupy the said sections. Yearly license to be offered to Mr Davidson at a rental of 15s, with right to remove his fencing if sections were required for other purposes. Ranger Hughan reported on the application by Angus M'Donald for a license to occupy sections 6, 7, and 8, block 9, Town of Kelso.—Gracing license over said sections to be offered to M'Donald at a rental of 7s 6d per acre. Henry Williams's application for a lease in perpetuity over sections 6, 9, and 12, block 9, Tarras district; was considered and approved of. Consideration of application by Mrs Mary Williams for a lease in perpetuity over section 5, block 9, Tarras district, came up for consideration, but was held over. James Fodie's application for a right-of-way through section 114, Ardgowan Estate, Stock Department Reserve, was considered.—liang«r Atkinson reported, as he did also on section 115, held by Michael Donovan. —A right-of-way to the creek to bo left in the hands of the Stock Department to arrange iP'a Mr Fodie. A further report re Donovan to be supplied by the ranger. The Board were requested to appoint an appraiser to value the improvements on. the following runs;— Runs 333 a. and 430, 1 Upper Hawea, Ranger M'Donald; sections 20, block 2, and 4 to 6, block 3, Cairnhill district, Banger O'Neill; Run No. 10, Mid-Wakatipn, and Run No. 16, Skippers, Ranger M'Kenzie. : Thomas We&h's and Frank Pofjf's ajjpli-

Asairtant-ranger O'Neill forwarded valuation of improvements on Motions 2, 3, and 4, block 10, town of Bannookburn.—Under the circumstances, section 2, black 10, Bannockbum Township, to be burdened with valuation for improvements, £305.
