PARIS, January 22.
In the Chamber of Deputies M. Etienne said that the New Hebrides demanded the serious attention of the Government. Australia was trying to supplant France, who owned 800,000 hectares of land in the group. If the Government were inactive, the question would become a source of worry. He suggested the abolition of convictism in New Caledonia in return for Australia making concessions in the New Hebrides.
M. Delcasse, the Foreign Minister, said that France only asked for the maintenance of treaties.
