SYDNEY, January 22,
The weather has been most oppressive and disagreeable since early morning. The sun has been completely obscured by a thick dust,, and a colored haze so dense that harbor navigation was difficult. Similar conditions prevailed over the greater part of the Commonwealth, dense dust storms sweeping across the continent from the west, accompanied by a hot wind, in numbers of cases followed by destructive gales. Bush fires are also causing much damage in many districts. MELBOURNE, January 22.
A storm swept across the city in thf. early hours, doing much damage to property. Several steamers broke loose. The steamer Albert collided with the tug Hawk, and both were considerably damaged. ADELAIDE, January 22.
A storm swept over Glenelg. The cutter Heather Bell and several boats belonging to clubs were sunk. Much damage was also done to house property.
