STOKE ORPHANAGE INQUIRY.

At the Stoke Commission, this morning Brothers Loetus and Wibertus were present, having postponed their departure for Sydm y and returned to Nelson in consequence »f certain recent allegations. ' , The boy Thomas Lynch was put in the box. He said that be had made a statement to Father Ge<rge Mahoney regarding certain allegations re Brother Wibertus, but declared that they were absolutely untrue and he had been put up by other boys to do so. Father George Mahoney also gave evidence, showing that the boy Thomas Lynch made two statftnents to him-one alleging certain aots to Brother Wibertus, the other declaring that he had told lies, being put up to them by the boys. Brother Wibertus, on oath, gave an emphatio denial to the witness named Ross, who had lodged a complaint the previous day and sent a message that he would not attend unless sent for. Mr F.-I', on behalf of th s management, put in a letter written by Lane, a witness against the management in June last, to Brother Lreuts. It was most cordial in tone, and asked that a Mtuation at the orphannge bo g ven him. The concluding words were: " I remain, your loving friend. Good-bye; may God blem you." ■ No further complaints being forthcoming, either hero or at Wellington, the Court was declared closed.
