SOCIAL MEETINGS.

The twenty-fourth anniversary of the Port Chalmers Volunteer Fire Brigade' wbb celebrated by a ball in the looal Town Hall on Friday evening, about sixty couples being present. Dancing was keob up with spirit to musio supplied by Mr Yates's band, while the oatering wa6 entrusted to Miss Fairley. The employee' of Ross and Glendining'a Clothing Factory held their annual spcial on Friday evening in St. Matthew's schoolroom. The hall was decorated, and about fifty couples were present. Mantle's band lorovidod the music, and Mr Lean was" in charge of tho oatering. A seleot orchestra, composed of the factory employes,. performed a couple of selections creditably, and songs were frequent during the intervals, those contributing being Miss Gibb and Messrs Eajjar aqd Eyre. The M.C.s were Messrs Feilden, Eagar, and Russell, who performed their duties satisfactorily. The gathering was a thorough success.
