HARVEST PROSPECTS.
[Fkoji Our Moonlight Corkesi-oxdent.] In.Central Otago tho inclemency of the late spring and summer has retarded vegetation. Two months ago the agricultural outlook appeared about as gleomy as it could welt be. However, the drought came to an end just in time, and since then matters have greatly changed. A superabundance of moisture has ccme, but there has been too little heat. Oata are now fairly luxuriant all round, but the late severe drought was telling severely on light Boils. On these, oats present a stunted appearance, and, being in the car, it is improbable that the stalk will reach much more. On the heavier and better-cultivated hinds present appearances indicate an excellent crop, both in respect of grain and fodder. Barley and wheat cannot be Eaid to be either far advanced or far behind for the season. Turnip ground was well prepared before the drought had attained it-B height, and consHpiently early-sown turnips are doing firstrate. In this district turnips provide a very important, item in the supplies of provender for stock, and any diminution of crop is always anticipated with anxiety. Happily there appears no cauee for apprehension this year. On the whole, harvest prospects aru now very fair, and, taking the situation all ow-r, there is no reason to complain.
