CRICKET.

M.C.C. v. AUCKLAND,

Winning the tcßs, the Melbourne 00. treated the home.team to au afternoon's leather-hunting on the Auckland Domain yesterday. The visitors were captained by C. H. Robs (Irwin standing our), while Ohlaon skipped the Aucklandtrs. Trumble and Mailer started the batting, Stephens and Stemaon being entrusted with the bowling. When 30 wbb reaoned M'Rae relieved Stephens, and oif his second ball an ineffective appeal for leg before wicket was made againßt Mailer. G. Millb went on in placs of Stemson, but runs still came. Both batsmen were showing pretty cricket, especially Trumble, who was loudly applauded for some fine cutting. Seventy-one went up after an hour's play, Trumble having scored 50. Constant ohangeß were now made in the bowling, but it was of no avail, as the batsmen seemed to do aa they liked. Auckland was misßing 11. Neill very much, and seemed to have no reully daDgerous bowlers. The century was hoisted after seventy minutes,' play. The Aucklanders were still fielding very well, Ohlßon in particular stopping so.me very hard hits on the boundary. The score rose rapidly from 100 to 143, at which stage Trumble obtained his century amidst loud applause. Runß came faßler than ever the Bcore being .increased to 180 in the course of ten minutes, W. Mills being very expensive. The fielding was now becoming somewhat loose, Wyuyard and Hay being the chief offenders. When the score reached 211 Trumble was at last out to a magnificent catch on the boundary. The retiring batsman was loudly cheered for his Ecore of 135. He hit no less than sixteen 'l's. Graham, the. incomer,' immediately began to score rapidly. Mailer Btill kep't up his wicket, arid ic was not until the telegraph showed i!9i) that he was caught and bowled by I. Anils. Though not playing such free cricket as Trumble, ho allowed exceptionally strong defence, and made great use of his late-cutting powers, Jacobs took the vacant crease, and shortly afterwards rime was called with the scu/c at 323 for two wickets.
