H. Lyon, considered (in committee, and adopted. In presenting the financial statement the treasurer, said that the several districts had responded nobly to the appeal made to them, and that thefti was much cause to look, with cheerful gratitude Upon the receipts .for-the year. c The Council adjourned at 12.15 in order to proceed to St. Clair, where luncheon was provided in the gymnasium. Prior to the adjournment" the Rev. F. Warner reappeared, and was congratulated on his partial recovery. THE LUNCHEON given at St. Clair and held in the gynma« ; shim was one of the Undoubted successes Of the Union's gathering. The ladies of the district provided a.repast which pleased the eye as well as the palate, and the,serving Was unexceptionable. The Rev. A. Hodge, pastoi? Of the St. Clair church, extended a hearty welcome to the delegates, specially mentioning Mr G. Fowlds, to whose enterprise and generosity it was owing that the St. Clair pastorate was placed m its present happy position, and the speaker also voiced the feelings of the residents in speaking of the honor conferred upon them by the presence of Dr Bevan and his wife. Mr. G, fowlds expressed the pleasure felt by the delegates in receiving the invitation to go out and partake of such open-handed hospitality, and he then called on Br Bevan; who j in a characteristic' and speech also, returned thanks. Mr'J. F. M: Fraser, replying on behalf of the hosts; *aid that the St. Clair church was practically a new church, gathered together by Mr Hodge, who had made his own congregation and: was a welcome guest at every house, irrespec- • live of denbminatiblj. ,In thiswork the minister .had the invaluable assistance of the ladies of the district, who cheerfully and With, unfailing result addressed themselves to the work in its various departments, evidence of this, being to hand in the luncheon just partaken bl. At the meeting which took place in the gymnasium after the tables were cleared the Rev. I. Sarginson read a paper on 'The Restoration of.Passion in Preaching,' and Dr Bevan read a paper on ' The Theological Drift.'
