WELLINGTON, October 30,

A boardiDg-house at Makuri, owned by James O'Callughan and leased to Harry Bugley, has beeu destroyed by fire.

GISBORNE, October 30.

An attempt was made last night to burn down tho Reseland Hotel, Makaraka. The fire was discovered by the proprietor in the nick of time, the flames having a Btrong hold of the front doorway and spreading rapidly. Several other suspicious fires have occurred in Makaraka recently, in which two horses were burned to death in their stable.

Mr Webb, late organist of St. Mark's, Wellington, has buen appointed organist at Holy Trinity, Gisborne.
