Bruin was first away, followed by Cbcsterraan, Preston, Havoc, Hopscotch, and To Whiti, Waterfall being nearly last, but after passing the stand the favorite went to the front, and shortly after Ayrshire stumbled and shot his rider out of the saddle. This put The Admiral m a bad position. The favorite led all the way round the back, his nearest attendants when passing the mile post being Te Whiti, Taranaki, Chesterman, Mischief, The Possible, and Havoc. Sweeping round into the slitdgbt Hopscotch was still in front, but Waterfall was coming fast, and then followed Trenchant. Monastery, Division, Chesterman, and Music. At the distance post Waterfall shot up alongside the rails, and having the race at his mercy ran home a comfortable winner by two lengths from Trenchant, who beat Quiver, who displayed phenomenal pace towards the finish, by a length for second place, Monastery close up fourth. Then came Te Whiti, Devon, Chosterman, Hopscotch, Music, Miraculeux, Duhallow, The Possible, and Havoc. The last two to finish were Aurens and Division. Time. 2min 36jsec. When Ayrshire stumbled The Admiral was seriously incommoded, Hayes lifting his ieg out of the saddle to clear himself; bat the accident never affected the result, as after Hopscotch ran himself out Mr Oxenham’s colt simply played with the field and romped home the easiest of winners amid the wildest commotion among the punters, who had forgotten how easily the son of Niagara had put down Creme d’Or in the Hopeful Stakes. Mr Oxenham, besides not laying hi* own colt, backed him to win a good stake.
