GRANGE STREET.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Since my arrival in town on Saturday last my attention has been called to a letter from the mayor in your issue of Thursday, the 17th inst., re my motion at the last meeting of the City Council—“ To have the channels in Grange street cemented.” The motion was put on the Order Paper during my absence from town. I first visited the street and found that the channels were in a very bad condition. In moving that the work should be at once attended to, I stated to the Council the fact that some months ago five cases of typhoid had occured in one house in this street, and that the medical man in attendance had stated that the filthy state of the street channels was the cause, and I felt it my duty to point out that any delay on the part of the Council might lead to grave results. Your reporter is alone responsible for calling it a “fever-stricken street.” Nothing I said could justify the use of such a term. In justice to the property-holders in Grange street and myself I trust you will insert this.—l am, etc., = .Archibald Morrison. Dunedin, October 21.
