INERPROVINCIAL.

IPer United Press Association.]

NEW PLYMOUTH, October 21

A house owned by John Hell, of Norfolk road, near Inglewood, was burned down last night, nothing being saved.

WELLINGTON, October 21.

At the annual meeting of the Shipmasters’ Association, held to-day, the report was of a satisfactory character, and fully justified the establishment of the Association. The retiring officers were re-elected. Captain Wilson was elected to succeed Captain Andrew as secretary to the Association at Auckland, at a salary of £2O per annum. Regret was expressed at Captain Andrew being compelled, through ill-health, to resign. It was decided to draw up a rule which will make the usual payment of £2O to a widow or the legal representative of a deceased member compulsory, not voluntary as at present. TIMARU, October 21.

Useful rain has fallen since Saturday, but more is required to ensure the growth of the crops.
