SYDNEY, October 21

The friendly societies’ Hospital Sunday demonstration was largely attended, but the collections showed a considerable decrease as compared with last year. Dr Kennedy’s experiment in hypnotism was carried out to the letter. When he roused the man by placing a hand on bis forehead he would not believe he had been asleep for a week. He was as strong and healthy as when put in the trance. Dr McCarthy, speaking on behalf of the committee of doctors who closely watched the experiment, and subjected it to the most severe tests, said he considered it one of the most remarkable on record. The man had undoubtedly been in a hypnotised condition. The only nourishment he had received was three quarts of extract of meat and a little’ whisky. When hypnotism was better understood it would become of practical service to mankind.
