SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.

At the final meeting of the outgoing Committee of the Duncdin Jockey Club, held last evening, James Young, a jockey, who had his leg broken at the Taieri races, made application to have his case considered, and the sum of L 7 10s was voted him from the distressed jockeys' fund. The Kumara Jockey Club hope to exterminate the cash bettors by running a 5s totalieator, and charging 5 per cent commission.

At the sale of the Sylvia Park stud yesterday there was spirited competition for Mersey, the dam of Carbine. One thousand guineas was the first bid called, and Messrs W. B. Wilson, Day, O'Brien, and others carried on the bidding rapidly. There was a burst of applause when Dan O'Brien called "Two thousand," and finally Mr Wilson (owner of Pygmalion) became the purchaser at 2,300 guineas. Florence M'Carthy, dam of Tirailleur, was sold to Mr S. H. Gollan, of Napier, for 400 guineas; and Mr Morrin, of Auckland, secured a great bargain in Steppe at 200 guineas. There was spirited competition for the yearlings. The highest priced was a colt by Nordenfeldt—Nelly Moore, a well-shaped and powerful looking youngster, which became the property of Mr Gollan at 1,050 guineas. Another colt by Nordenfeldt—Florence M'Carthy, closely related to Tirailleur, was the centre of brisk bidding, and was also purchased by Mr Gollan for 950 guineas. The winning payments at the Auokland summer meeting were:—G. G. Stead, L 707 15s; W. Douglas, L 646; P. Butler, L 745 15s; Major George, L 498 15s; George Wright, L 275 10s: Thomas Morrin, L 247; L. D. Nathan, LlO9 ss; P. Daniels, L 95; and live lesser amounts—making a total of L 3.847 10s.
