NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
The Manawatu Railway Company will grant return tickets to volunteers in uniform, being competitors at the Rifle Association's meeting at Napier, at single fares. These are : first class 17s 6d, second class lis Bd, between Wellington and Palmerston North. The double journey, therefore, from Wellington to Napier and back by this route will cost to volunteers in uniform, first class 29s 6d, second class 23s Sd. The figures include the cost of the double journey by ooach between Palmerston North and Wood▼Me. Auckland will probably be represented at the meeting by the following:—A Battery : Lieutenant Haultain, Sergeant Parslow, Corporal Doughty, Bombardier Webster, Gunners Taylor, Henderson, Fuchanan (2), Moore, J. B. Fairs. 0 Battery: Sergeants M'Callum aud M. Fairs. City Guards: Sergeant Soall, Volunteers Osborne and Craig. Victorias: Major Skinner, Colorsergeant Skinner, Volunteers Teo. Fairs and M'Carthy. Newton Rifles: Volunteer Nutt. Royal Irish : Captain Tobin and Volunteer Dormer. Onehunga Rifles : Captain Leahy and Volunteer Dore. Ponsonby Navals: Petty-officers Spinley (2), Seamen Stanley and Ewen. Civilians: W. B. White, D. Hay, F. V. Kelly, W. Thompson. The programme for the meeting has been forwarded to' us in book form by Captain Sommerville. The meeting begins at Napier on the 20th inst. with the Wellington Match—seven shots at 200, 500, and 600 yards—for which thirty prizes (of the value of L7O) are offered. Then follows the big event of the meeting, the Hawke's Bay Match —ten shots at 500 and 600 yardß—for which forty-seven prizes (of the valne of L 120) are given. The competition for the championship is expected to fioieh on Saturday, the 24th. The champion, besides the champion riflo belt and a gold star, takes L4O in oash; the second highest, the N.Z.R.A. silver star and L3O; the third highest, the N.Z.R.A. silver star and L2O; and the fourth highest, the N.Z.R.A. silver star and LI 5. The intercolonial team, for which LSO is given, is likely to fall through for want of three teams of ten men each from the Australasian colonies. In the Companies' Team Match, of five men—seven shots at 200,500, and 600 yards—eight prizes (of the value of L 150) are offered, the highest team getting LSO; and in the District Representative Match (won by Canterbury last year) L2O is given to the winning team. The programme is on a" more liberal scale than usual, and every effort is to be made to complete the meeting within a week. Major Webb, of Nelson, is to have command of the camp at the Napier prize -tiring, and Lieutenant Forster, of Wanganui, will act as local secretary.
