AUCKLAND, Jancaby 6. The eighth annual session of the Educational Institute commenoed here this morning. There was a large attendance, including representatives from the southern branch. Mr Harrison (president) in his opening address replied to the oharges of godlessness made against the State system. He also pointed to America's attitude regarding the cost of education to show that New Zealand is not paying too much. He advocated the abolition of the pnpil-teacher system and the establishment of a training institution, and also recommended that the functions of inspectors should be revised and enlarged with a view more for inspection than examination. The address was warmly commended. Committees were appointed to deal with various subjects, and an adjournment was made till to-morrow.
