CONFERENCE OF ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETIES.

Dr Fraukish intends to move at the next meeting of tho Christchureh Acclimatisation Society tho following resolutions : That, in view of the general and widespread dissatisfaction on tho part of the public at tho postponement of the shooting season for Nativo game, and of tho action of Government iu completely ignoring the recommendations of the various Acclimatisation Societies in connection therewith, it is desirable that a Conference of the wholo of the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies should be held before the next sitting of Parliament, for the purpose of suggesting alterations in the Animals' Protection Act, and of considering other important matters in connection with acclimatisation.

That tho seoretary bo instructed to write to tho various societies, inviting them to appoint delegates to attend a Conference to be held in Christchureh on tho day of May, 1889. That tho attention of all tho societies bo specially directed to the following questions, which will, among others, bo discussed at tho Conference: —

The desirableness of altering the Animals' Protection Act, with a view of appointing a fixed day for opening the shooting season for both native and imported game, the day to be the Bame throughout tho colony, and unalterablo except by Act of Parliament. Tho necessity for curtailing tho shooting season for native game. The desirableness of limiting the period during which native gamo may bo sold, and of making it compulsory on the part of licensed dealers to keep a record of the gamo purchased, tho district from which it was obtained, and the names of the persons by whom it was supplied. The propriety of compelling the professional shooter, who sells native gamo to the dealers, to pay a substantial license feo. The desirableness of prohibiting shooting on Sundays. Tho necessity for having a ten shilling gun license, with a view of checking poaehThe desirableness of having tho licenses for shooting and fishing issued by the secretaries of tho various societies at least a fortnight beforo tho respective seasons open.
