CRIMINAL SESSIONS.

WELLINGTON.

The Grand Jury ignored the bill* against; Robert Mansfield and David Francis, charged with larceny from the person. Mary Miller was found guilty of larceny and remanded for sentence. F. C. Guarotei for horse-stealing, was acquitted, and also Duncan Beatty, on a charge of unlawfully wounding. The following sentences were passed this morning:—Mary Miller, for larceny, six months; Robert Whitchurch, breaking and entering, twelve months; Edward Elton, breaking and entering, two years; Leonard Tyler pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking and entering, and was remanded for sentence. CHRISTCHURCH. William Schaffe was acquitted of the charge of attempting to do grievous bodily harm to Edward Morgan at Ashburton, The following accused pleaded guilty : William Byrne Storey, forgery; Albert John Searl, John Ross, Leonard Sellers (three lads), to six charges of breaking and entering; Albert J. Searl and John Ross; setting fire to premises ; Frederick Gabites, Gordon M'Ewan, larceny; Frederick Cooper, cattle-stealing. In all the above cases sentence was deferred. James White pleaded guilty to horse-stealing, and was sentenced to twelve months' hard labor. The Grand Ju'ry made a preseafnlent expressing regret at the indisposition of Mr Justice Johnston, and a hope that he might be speedily restored to health. True bills were found in all cases except that of James Wilson, for larceny, in which the principal witness (J. H. Malone) failed to appear. His recognisances were ordered to be eßtfreatgd. The vfollowing sentences- were passed to-day:—Clharles Bilsan, three years; John Fisher, burglary, fifteen months; W. B. Storey, larceny, two years; Frederick Cooper, cattletßtealing, three years; Gordon M'Ewen, largcmy, was released, on six months' probation.
