At the Diocesan Synod the Rev. J. H. Hill moved <i' resolution in'the direction of allowing 1 denominational schools some Bhare in the public funds,''provided that, they satisfy the Government Inspector in Becular. knowledge and other requirements. After: long debate the motion was carried. The Westport Harbor Board have accepted the resignation of Mr C. Napier Bell as engineer, and are inviting applications for the post at LSOO a-year. - . Judge Richmond has decided that the Official Assignee must admit the City Advance Company's claim to prove forLl,9oo on Waters's estate.
BLENHEIM, October 4.
The'Picton School' Committee selected but of thirty-five applications MrC. C. Howard, formerly head of the training college at Wellington; and Miss Hay, as master and mistress of the Picton school. The Education Board confirmed the recommendations to-day. At a meeting of the Awatere Rabbit 1 Board the chairman read a letter from Mr Beaumont, a ruaholder, who made various experiments for, getting rid -of the rabbit pest oh'his property. He stated that he 'had spent over LI 1,000 in six years, and had been so successful that his operations now only cost him LSO per annum. The Board ordered, a shipment of stoats and weasels, to. cost about L.2,000.
