WELLINGTON, September 17,

A. series of football matches were arranged this afternoon in aid of the fund for sending Hearn, the sculler, to Sydney to take part in the sculling tournament. The principal event was a costume match at Newton Park, after which the senior teams of the Wellington and Poneke Clubs played a game, the latter winning by 1 point to nil. The D Battery and Wellington Navals played a drawn match. About 5,000 people were present, and the proceeds were about LSO. The junior representatives' team match between the Wellington and Wairarapa Unions was played at Masterton this afternoon, and won by Wairarapa by 3 points to nil.
