RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

H. Green v, H. Hollander.—Claim, L 4 4s 4d, on a judgment summons.—The defendant appeared, and evidence of means and ability to pay was given.—An order to pay L 3 IDs 4d still due, with costs (ss), by instalments of 2s 6d weekly, was made, in default three days’ imprisonment, Otago Harbor Board v. E. W. Glover.— Claim, L 4 3s 3d, for harbor improvement rates on some skins imported in December last. Mr Sim appeared for the Board, and Mr Macgregor (on behalf of Mr Macdonald) for the defendant.—Mr Sim said the defendant did not dispute the arrival of the goods, but questioned the method by which the measurement was arrived at.—lt was pointed out that it was rather a hard case for the defendant, and the secretary (Mr J. L. Gillies) of the Harbor Board had got a by-law amended to meet the case.—Judgment was given for plaintiff for amount claimed and 6s costs.
