HAMILTON v. READE.

The telegraphic report of the proceedings at Invercargill on Thursday in connection with the above matter being somewhat incomplete, the following additional particulars may prove interesting : Reade, as solicitor for Hamilton, received LIBO, proceeds of a judgment in the District Court, Invercargill. After deducting his costs Reade employed the remainder (L 170) in purchasing on behalf of Hamilton a bill for L2OB, then current, given by the latter to one M'Ardell. Hamilton repudiated the purchase, and brought an action against Reade for the proceeds of judgment (L 170) received by him. At the trial in the District Court Reade swore that he purchased the bill on behalf of Hamilton and by his instructions. Hamilton swore the reverse; but Reade’s evidence as to his instructions was corroborated, and judgment was reserved by Judge Ward. Pending the judgment, the bill in question matured, and Reade forthwith brought an action on it against Hamilton in the < Supreme Court, and entered up judgment in default of plea. It was decided in the District Court that Reade, as he swore, had purchased the bill by Hamilton’s instructions and on his behalf; and judgment was consequently given in favor of the former. Then the judgment obtained by Reade iu the Supreme Courf, on the bill which he swore did not belong to him, was mentioned, and led to strong remarks from Judge Ward. Probably an application will be made to set aside the judgment in the Supreme Court, and to bring Mr Reade’s peculiar views of the use of legal procedure before Mr Justice Williams.
