THE MAORI WAR.
To the Editor of the Kecnimj rskir. Sir, —I am sorry to see, clay after clay, and week after week, the War in the North continues to get worse. It is my opinion, .Sir, that the colony of New Zealand has been shamefully treated, in reference to this matter, by England, and that her conduct is a disgrace to the British Empire. A few years imo they patched up a peace anyhow, and then left the unwariike population of New Zealand to defend themselves as best they could. In my opinion, such treatment is exasperativc ; and L approve of the idea, lately mooted, of the annexation of the Colony to the American States. If this alternative were put before the “unnatural old parent,” it would alter “ her tone considerably.” The French would have settled this Maori business so that no crisping up of it would ever have occurred again, and that for a very simple reason ; but we go on from year to year humbugging with a lot of coppercolored cut-throats, who do nothing but murder our fellow-colonists. —I am, etc.,
