CHAMPIONS COME THROUGH

NEW YORK, September 3. Frank Parker retained the national singles title at Forest Hills, wearing down a limping Talbert, 14-12, 6-1, 6-2. Talbert, who injured his left knee when defeating Segura, was barely able to hobble round the court. Misses Brough and Osborne defeated Misses Betz and Hart 6-4, 6-4. winning the women's doubles for the fourth successive year and equalling ! the 1937-40 record of Sarah Palfrey Fabian (now Mrs. Cooke) and Alice Marble. The winners were steadier, concentrating their attack on Miss Betz, who lacked her usual accuracy. The crowd of 15,000 was the largest since before the war. Talbert, in spite of his knee injury, won the mixed doubles title with Miss Osborne, defeating Falkenberg and Miss Hart, 6-4. 6-4.
