IDLE ALONG RACE

Tho Wellington boat, the Tornado, won the second Idle Along race in the >,'ew Zealand championships, held on the harbour today, and she was followed by Canterbury, South Canterbury, Hawke's Bay, and Nelson in that order. The Bay of Plenty boat had to withdraw when part of her rigging carried away. An accident occurred to the Tornado when she was taken ashore after yesterday's race, and it was not expected that she would race today. She was dropped from a cradle and had her side badly split. Howaver, hard work last nights repaired the damage and this was justified by today's result.

The course for the race was from Point Jerningham to Shelly Bay, to a buoy in the middle of the harbour, and back to Point Jerningham. This was sailed twice. Conditions were good but they gave crews plenty of work.

The boats got away well together, and at Shelly Bay Canterbury was in the lead. Only about half a minute separated the first and last boats at this stage. Wellington went into the lead shortly after this and increased tho advantago to about a three-minute lead at the finish.

Canterbury and South Canterbury had a battle for the second place, Canterbury gaining tho honours.
