NAVY BAZAAR
TRIBUTE TO MEN OF THE SEA
The annual ladies' guild bazaar arranged by the ladies of Si Barnabas' parish of Roseneath and Oriental Bay was held in the Parish Hall last Saturday afternoon and evening. This year it took the form of a "Navy" bazaar, the decorations, costumes of the stallholders, and musical programme being appropriate to the title. Captain A. D. Boyle, R.N., Naval Officer in Charge, Wellington, accompanied by Lieuten-ant-Commander Olphert and Mrs. ;. Olphert, officially' opened the bazaar and commended the work of the ladies and the generosity of those present and wished the effort every success. In welcoming the visitor, the vicar took the opportunity in the name of the parish to pay a tribute to the gal- j lantry of the men of the sea, and thanked the stall-holders and parish-1 ioners for their labours and generosity. Mr. O. G. A. Home, on behalf of the vestry and ladies' guild, thanked Captain Boyle for his kindly interest. The following were stall-holders:— Guild (work), Megdames O'Neill, Broughton, and Clarjfe; novelty, Miss ; Eagar, Mesdames Thornley and Batten; ■ cake, Mesdames F. G. Thomson, Bance, and Misses Freida and Joan Hodges; sweets and drinks, Mesdames | Ellen and Radcliffe and Miss Beryl | O'Neill; flowers, Misses Scotland and D. Murphy; produce, Mesdames Hook, Clissold, H. B Martin, and Mr. Hook; I afternoon tea, Mesdames Boag, Nichol- j son, Highet, Storey, arid Miss Storey; jumble, Misses Gladys Broughton, Nesta: and Jol Calton. Mr. F. G. Thomson was treasurer. The bazaar was brought to q sue- . oessful conclusion in the evening with a concert programme, the items being contributed by Mesdames Ody and McIntyre, Mr. Lovat, Misses Beere, Valeric Koberts, June Peachy, Pat Locker, Broughton, and Seymour. One of Miss Adeline Burnett's pupils, Master Wayne Howes, danced the sailor's! hornpipe at the opening ceremony, j Mrs. Metcalf arranged the programme, played the accompaniments, and played incidental music in the afternoon and evening.
