SPITFIRES AS POWER-DIVERS

RUGBY, November 25,

A successful attack by an Australian Spitfire squadron on a V 2 site in the Netherlands on Tuesday was the culmination of many practices, says the Air Ministry. The success of the operation, which was planned and supervised by Group Captain A. M. Donaldson, a veteran of the Battle of Britain, and which was led by Squadron Leader Ernest Esau, of Brisbane, hung upon the effectiveness of Spitfires when used in a power dive.—B.O.W.' Rec. 12.45 p.m. RUGBY, November 26. The Spitfire bomber squadron which last Thursday scored hits upon rocket installations repeated its performance at another site on Sunday. The objective was well camouflaged in a wood, but the aircraft dropped their bombs "dead in the centre of the target" and plastered the surrounding area with concentrated bursts of cannon and rocket fire. Another Spitfire made ground-strafing attacks on another rocket-launching site and saw cannon shells exploding among treesheltered equipment.—B.O.W.
