The Victoria Cross has been awarded to the Canadian, Major David Vivian Currie, aged 32, for gallant and effective leadership of a small, mixed force of tanks, anti-tank guns, and infantry which, after a fierce battle'lasting for three days and nights, routed 3000 Germans and closed one of the main escape routes from the Falaise pocket.
