RUGBY, November 22. , The liberation of Metz was stated by a correspondent at Supreme Headquarters" to have been effected at 3 p.m. today. The last German stronghold in this area was in Ilede Saulcy. in the north-west part of the city. The estimated strength of the garrison which has been captured is 900, including Lieutenant-General Kittle, commander of the 462 nd Administrative Division. . The Tenth Armoured Division, operating across the German border, has advanced another one and a half miles 4 to occupy Tunsdorff. Forces operating slightly to the south have reached the German frontier at two undefined places. The Remilly forest has been ■• completely cleared arid an enemy • salient there eliminated.—B.O.W.
