THIRD ARMY FRONT

LONDON, November 22.

A special communique from Supreme Headquarters announces the complete liberation of Metz. General Eisenhower has sent a message to General Patton congratulating the Third Army on its success in restoring to France the historic city of Metz. Correspondents report that the Germans are still 'holding out this morning in the big fort in the hills west of the town and on an island inside the town itself Meanwhile, other Third Army troops, keeping up their advance to the northeast of Metz, have reached the German frontier at new points, and the forces already across the frontier are facing the Siegfried Line and extending their front.
