.This years tourney for the championship pf the Wellington Chess Club has been handsomely won by Mr. R. G Wade, the present holder of the New Zealand title. His tally of 10-1 was made up of 9 wins and 2 draws (against Dr. Elizabeth Meyer and T Lepunkmann). The next best efforts a' 6 ™ se „of T- Lepuiikmann 8-3, £' ™ 9t vl xes. 74- and E- H- Severne 7-4. E J r: Hutchings (5-4) will be bracketed for third place if he wins his two outstanding games. Dr. P. Allerhand last year's winner, had made the good tally of 5H£ when he left Welling•S to m take UP a position in Invercargill. The club appears to have had 15 champions during its 68 years' existence—Messrs. C. W. Benbow, R. J Barnes, A. L Littlejohn, W. E. Mason, A. W. O. Davies, W. Mackay, E. A Hicks A. W Gyles, G. P. Anderson, F. K. Kelling, E. H. Severne, E. J. Dyer w P eyeL P- Allerhand, and R. G_ Wade. Mr Wade has enhanced his good record recently by winning wat£ ht? %?"?, J- D- Steele (3 to 2) and H. McNabb (4 to 1). He had a useful lead of two points in a match with Dr. Allerhand which had to be abandoned when the latter left Wellington, 4i to 2_ with 3 to play. These contests usefully replace the shorter ladder matches that have lost some of the popularity that they enjoyed in pre-war years.
