YEARLING SALES

A FIRM MARKET

HIGH QUALITY STOCK

Following a record opening day, when 82 lots were disposed of for the big figure of 39,015 guineas, the 18th National Yearling Sales were continued at Trentham today. Unfortunately, weather conditions restricted the attendance of buyers and others interested. Another equally high quality lot of juveniles were offered, and it was evident quite early in the sale that the market would remain firm, with good prices coming for fashionably-bred youngsters. Bidding opened rather quietly, and several of the early lots were passed. But with the entry of the first of the Koatanui Stud, a brother of the Wellington Stakes winner, Subdued, bidding livened up, and this fine colt was knocked -. down to the New Plymouth trainer H. Dulieu, who was acting on behalf of Mr. M. J. Moodabe, at 1500 guineas. The Awapuni trainer of Subdued, G. W. New, was in the market for two later offerings, and purchased a colt and filly by Ringmaster at 600 guineas and 500 guineas respectively, on behalf of Messrs. J. and L. McMillan. At the luncheon adjournment 37 lots had been disposed of for a total of 12,690g5, giving an average of 343gs a head. On resumption the average was given a lift with the entry of a great type of colt, a half-brother to Greek Shepherd by Robin Goodfellow. He went to 1850gs, top price for the day, and was purchased by T. R. George, the Masterton trainer, on behalf of a patron. Sales completed included:— Gs. On account of A. Appleyard, Hawera.
