CHESS PLAY-OFF
FIRST GAME TO WADE
The first game in the play-off, between E. H. Severne and R. C. Wade for the New Zealand chess championship, was won by Wade last evening, after having been adjourned from Saturday. At the adjournment, Severne, under the impression that he had to lose a pawn, sealed an inferior move that gave up the pawn outright. Wade won a second pawn at the 60th move, and Severne resigned after the 68th move. The second game will be played tomorrow evening.
