TRAINS DELAYED

FAULT IN SIGNALS SYSTEM

All trains on the Paekakariki line, including expresses, were delayed today by a fault in the electrical signalling system, and at 11.30 a.m. the delay was still some 40 mm. in the case of each train. The fault blacked out all the signal lights and this meant staffing each station to handle the traffic. There was a slight improvement in the delay by 2 p.m., and it was expected that normal running would be resumed later today.
