SERVICE TO COUNTRY

P.A. ELTHAM, December 17. Several hundred electors from all parts Of the Egmont electorate assembled at the Town Hall last night to recognise Mr. C. A. Wilkinson's services as its Parliamentary representative for 22 years. Mr. Wilkinson was presented with an illuminated address and Mrs. Wilkinson with an appropriate gift. The presentation was made by Mr. E. B. Corbett, the new member for Egmont. He was supported by Mr. W. A. Sheat, M.P. (Patea), Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P. (Stratford), and Mr E. P. Aderman, M.P. (New Plymouth). Representatives were present from all local bodies, and Miss W. E. Carter attended on behalf of the women. Mr. H. G. Dickie, ex-member for Patea, also attended. The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) sent a telegram apologising for his absence, and referring to Mr. Wilkinson's long and honourable Parliamentary career and the help he had given to the Dominion as a member. Mr. G. W. Forbes also forwarded a telegram referring to Mr. Wilkinson's service to the Dominion, and both referred to the assistance given to them personally during their terms of office. The presentation was non-political, being subscribed to by all shades of political opinion. The address was signed by Mr. Corbett on behalf of the electors. ___
