PARLIAMENT
SESSION RESUMED
The House of Representatives resumed yesterday afternoon, and after a heated discussion on the question of election propaganda paper settled down to consideration of the Estimates. Five classes of Estimates, totalling £5,499,----249, were disposed of, those for the Education Department providing the bulk of that sum.
During the evening sitting the Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Amendment Bill and the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill were introduced.
The Prime Minister stated before the adjournment that questions would be taken this afternoon and tonight, the annual taxing Bill would be put through its remaining stages, and the Nurses' Registration Amendment Bill could be discussed.
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. Holland) was in the House for only a few minutes during, the evening sitting as, following treatment for glandular trouble, he has been advised to refrain from public speaking for a short time. Unless a major debate arises he will not take an active part as leader of the National Party in the House for the next week or so. His health has improved greatly as a result of medical treatment and a brief holiday in North Canterbury. In his absence Mr. W. J. Poison (Stratford) acted as Leader of the Opposition.
The member • for Mid-Canterbury, who was elected as Mrs. Grigg, and '.who--married Mr. Poison recently, was in her usual place in the House. The Chairman of Committees (Mr. McKeen) made a'slip by referring to Mrs.- Poison as Mrs. Grigg when she rose to ask a question during the discussion on the education estimates, but he made a quick correction and the House smiled.
