Much pleasure has been given lately to the women who pack the gifts sent in for merchant sailors. ' A large case of books, some new and all modern, as well as some '..good- magazines were sent, by a committee,: of 'ladies ..In Nelson.. Miss Haldane is the leader and provides a room.for storing.and pack-i mg. The. books, etc.,,will give much! pleasure, to sailors who, have long and lonely voyages. . Some have- been sent! forward already, and the others will! soon fpllow. " They have been sorted j at the office of Captain Macindoe, Do-j minion secretary of the Merchant- Ser- j vice Guild, C.T.A. Buildingi, Wellington. -Another pleasant surprise wa3 the receipt of .two cases of books and magazines ' which: arrived by train from the' Oma'k'ere Women's. Institute (Waipawa). The: books'.from Nelson Were kindly carried free by the Anchor Company. ' ' The committee wishesVto, thank • all those who appreciate the work- of the merchant sailors and "lend a ■friendly hand." Books from private individuals are now much needed'as the committee until a few months ago was supplied by the country .libraries, but unfortunately that.source is completely dried up, and those interested in the Merchant Navy have to look further afield.
