PAY AND PENSIONS
TWO MATTERS OF COMPLAINT
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Dyty. Delay in handing over, to returned soldiers 28 days' pay for sick privilege leave was mentioned by Mr. Jefcoate at an R.S.A. meeting. He averred that Army pay irrespective of pension was payable to returned men whose leave had been deferred until presentation to the War Pensions Board of a certificate that hospital treatment had been completed. He urged that the Government should pay immediately upon discharge from hospital. A soldier should not have to apply. Mr. Jefcoate also alleged that when a final medical board fixed the degree of a soldier's disability and pension it was generally found that the War Pensions Board reduced substantially the amount recommended by the Medical Board. It was decided to ask the Dominion executive of the N.X.R.S.A. to investigate the matter.
