WAR
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day. A divorce action, the first of its kind in Auckland, was heard before Mr. Justice Callan and a jury today, when Trevor Harold Hadley, an R.A.F. pilot officer now a prisoner oi' war in Germany, petitioned for divorce from his wife, Phyllis Isabel Hadley, on the grounds of adultery with Mate Paunovic, a taxi-driver, and claimed £250 damages. ~ „ The petitioner's father, Arnold H. Hadley, had obtained power of attorney last November from the son to sign the petition and papers in the case.
The defence by the co-respondent indicated that he was unaware that the respondent--was married until some time after the association began. The marriage took place in March, 1940 when the petitioner was on final leave, the respondent being in employment in Christchureh. In September. 1940, the petitioner was shot down while in a bomber over Bremen and was made a prisoner. In December of the same year the respondent came to Auckland.
